Fruit juice flavoured ethanol

Half of the plant's ethanol will be derived from fruit juice waste

US-based New Jersey Ethanol plans to construct an ethanol plant using beverage-production waste, mostly from fruit juices, to produce ethanol.

The $6 million (€3.8 million) facility in Bridgeton, New Jersey, could be operational by October 2008.

The plant initially will produce around 3 million gallons of ethanol a year, allowing for future expansion of 10 million gallons.

It will include a 3,360 square foot processing building and five grain silos and several ethanol storage tanks. Bridgeton's proximity to Philadelphia oil refineries and the area's prolific corn production were the primary factors in New Jersey Ethanol seeking to build the plant in the city.

New Jersey Ethanol President Leo Fischer estimates 50% of the plant's ethanol will be corn-based, while the remaining 50% will be derived from fruit juice waste.
