Petrotec biodiesel tops GHG savings
18th April, 2008
Petrotec's brand EcoPremium Biodiesel is produced at its 185,000 tonne a year plant
Petrotec, which began developing its biodiesel technology in 1998, collects and refines its feedstock used cooking oil (UCO) into biodiesel. It can be used as a blending stock for ultra-low sulphur diesel as well as a pure fuel (B100) for trucking and haulage companies.
EN 590 diesel allows up to 5% of its content to come from biomass or biofuels, with various European countries already mandating the use of biofuels in transport fuel blends. By 2010 it will be mandatory for EU companies to use 5.75% biofuel in their blends. Petrotec produces 185,000 tonnes of biodiesel a year.
Petrotec has already signed a deal with a UK oil major and is a listed supplier of an important UK oil refiner. The company is now in discussions with many players in the fuels market.
'Petrotec's brand EcoPremium Biodiesel is an ideal blending component for winter and summer periods, based on its EN14214 compliance and Cold Filter Plugging Point zero (CFFP 0) properties,' Michael Fiedler-Panajotopoulos, Petrotec's director of sales and marketing, says.
Petrotec has a track record of producing biodiesel from used cooking oil since the year 2000.
Petrotec's second biodiesel plant will have a capacity of 100,000 tonnes a year, and will be situated in the deep sea harbour of Emden at the North Sea coast close to the Dutch border. The site with a tank farm and a jetty is designed as an export-import hub and helps the company to serve the UK market and the ARA-region by vessels.
