VeraSun Energy completes merger with US BioEnergy

4th April, 2008

US-based ethanol producer VeraSun Energy has closed its merger with US BioEnergy.

'We expect to reach 16 biorefineries and an operating capacity of more than 1.6 billion gallons by the end of 2008,' VeraSun CEO Don Endres comments.

With the completion of the merger, valued at approximately $707 million (€450 million), VeraSun owns and operates 10 ethanol production facilities with an annual capacity of 980 million gallons a year. Seven other facilities are currently under construction or in development.

The company announced it started construction at its Aurora facility to extract oil from dried distillers grains, a co-product of the ethanol process, for use in biodiesel production. By the end of 2008 VeraSun will be the largest ethanol producer in the US.

VeraSun markets E85 for use in Flexible Fuel Vehicles (FFVs), directly to fuel retailers under the brand VE85. VeraSun Energy now has approximately 150 VE85 retail locations under contract in more than fifteen states
